The air-cooled V-Twin Harley-Davidson motorcycles run at higher temperatures than water-cooled engines and therefore require a special high temperature additive package to protect the engine. You can trust the H-D 360 engine oil in a Harley-Davidson engine without any worries. Refer to your Harley-Davidson manual for the correct SAE grade, taking into account climate and temperature conditions. You should change the engine oil and oil filter at the first change the engine oil and oil filter at the first 1,000-mile service interval and at every 5,000-mile service interval thereafter. If you use the motorcycle heavily, ride in very dusty conditions or ride constantly in cold weather, you should change the engine oil and filter more frequently. You should always change the engine oil and filter before winter storage (and before any prolonged downtime) so that the engine oil is clean and free of residue during this time. The recommended viscosity grade for all temperature conditions is SAE 20W50 Harley-Davidson engine oil. SAE 10W40 motorcycle oil is also available and suitable for low ambient temperatures. The SAE 50 H-D motorcycle oil is well suited for ambient temperatures of 60-80 °F (1627 °C), and SAE 60 motorcycle oil for ambient temperatures above 80 °F (27 °C). SAE 20W50 covers the widest operating temperature range.
